Known as China's most ecologically valuable scenic spot, Jiuzhaigou (九寨溝) in Sichuan Province has always been a favourite destination for tourists with its stunningly colourful scenery in summer and autumn.
However, do you know that a unique charm can be found in Jiuzhaigou in winter as well?
China's must-see winter destination: Jiuzhaigou
All along, travellers who like to travel in China like to visit Jiuzhaigou in spring and autumn.
One of the reasons is that these two seasons have the best weather, which is not too hot or too cold and is most suitable for enjoying the colourful lakes and trees.
But actually, the poetic and picturesque Jiuzhaigou in winter is just as impressive in spring and autumn, making it an unmissable winter travel destination.
In winter, Jiuzhaigou wears a silver coat over its forests and mountains, with frozen waterfalls and still lakes, giving the impression of entering a serene, frozen kingdom. It is one of the most beautiful scenic spots in China.
In Jiuzhaigou, it usually starts snowing around October each year, and the mountain peaks begin to get covered in snow. If you visit in late winter, you might even encounter a world of falling snow.
However, the snow scenery in Jiuzhaigou is different from the heavy snow in the northern China's winter. It does not have that frozen feeling. Instead, it presents a tranquil vibe with its unique charm.
In winter, the water in Jiuzhaigou's lakes becomes even clearer, reflecting colours of turquoise and light green, and the falling snow makes the lakes stand out even more.
Thus, winter is the best season to savour the different beauty of the lakes in Jiuzhaigou, instead of the colourful mountains in spring and autumn.

In winter, the waterfalls would even turn into icy sculptures and reflect the blue and green waters of the lakes.
Some might worry that visiting Jiuzhaigou in winter could be cold. In fact, the average winter temperature in Jiuzhaigou is around 3 to 5˚C.
However, there is a significant difference in temperature between day and night. When there is sunshine in the daytime, you will be warmed up; and temperatures drop rapidly at night, especially at high-altitude scenic spots where it gets even colder.
If it snows, the temperature can drop to as low as -10˚C. Visitors should be well-equipped with warm clothing suitable for walking.
Another point worth noting is that winter is the off-season for Jiuzhaigou. From November to March each year, the tickets are charged at off-season rates, more than half the price of the peak season, saving tourists a significant amount of money.
Spring flowers, summer waterfalls, autumn leaves, and winter snow, the scenery of Jiuzhaigou varies with each season. For travellers who love to visit China, dont's miss the beauty of Jiuzhaigou in any season.
