The largest Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival lights up in Nansha

This Chinese New Year, Nansha, Guangzhou hosted the 2025 Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival, which is the largest lantern festival in the history of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), creating a number of "China's Best".

The 2025 Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival

The 2025 Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival held in Guangzhou Nansha, together with the participation from all 11 cities in GBA. 

The festival features two elements of intangible cultural heritage, Chinese Spring Festival and traditional lanterns.

It has created four "China's Best", including the largest scale ever, which cover three major tourist attractions of Nansha Coastal Park (南沙海濱公園), Nansha Tian Hou Palace (南沙天后宮), and Puzhou Garden (蒲州公園).

Also, it is the most lantern sets ever, with a total of 218 lighting groups on display and 20,000 colorful lantern ornaments. The longest duration ever, which lasts 68 days from January 22 to March 30. And the most participating cities ever, with 11 cities in GBA involved.

The 2025 Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival runs from January 22 to March 30, combining elements of food, shopping, and entertainment.

Nansha Coastal Park

The Coastal Park has three lantern festival themes.

The first one showcases traditional Chinese New Year customs and traditions of GBA, emphasising Chinese New Year and Lingnan style.

Another theme is about the economic vitality and innovative development of GBA, highlighting the fruitful achievements of the leading manufacturing industry and the significant accomplishments of the development.

There is also a theme showcasing famous cultural landmarks of countries and regions along the Belt and Road, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in exotic cultures.

The Coastal Park Scenic Area presents a plethora of dazzling lantern displays.
In view of the large area of the festival, there are domestic electric vehicles for rental.

In the Coastal Park Scenic Area, there are lantern sets from 11 cities of GBA. This one is the lantern set of Hong Kong.

Must-see spots include the "9+2 City Scroll", crafted by the 11 cities of GBA, with each city designing its own unique lanterns.

Shenzhen showcases its cityscape with technology and fashion, while Hong Kong features the Bauhinia flower.

In addition, the lantern festival features a wide variety of lanterns, showcasing the splendour of Guangdong as a thousand-year-old commercial capital.

Nansha Tianhou Temple

The Tianhou Temple features lanterns with intangible cultural heritage, food, and New Year customs, presenting the urban culture of GBA.

One of the highlights of the lantern festival is the giant "Goddess of Hairpin Flowers" lantern at the lakeside of Tin Hau Temple.

This set of lanterns is a perfect demonstration of the exquisite craftsmanship of the intangible cultural heritage hairpin flower. Not only is it beautiful, but the goddess also blinks, which is fascinating to watch.

Thousands of colorful lanterns outlined the majestic Tianhou Temple, which are impressive at night when lit up.

Nansha Puzhou Garden

Puzhou Garden is about the lantern incorporating with more trendy, cyberpunk style.

Lantern set like "Cyber Awakening Lion", "Monkey King", and the "Fairy Tale World" are so innovative that you must not miss.

Besides these stunning lantern arts, the performances in the lantern festival are also attractive, including Yingge Dance, dragon and lion dances, Kirin dance, traditional drumming, parades, and puppet shows.

These performances will be on show from the first to the eighth day of the Chinese New Year, bringing visitors with the joy and fun of this wonderful Chinese traditional festival.

After the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link Nansha line opened, it is more convenient to reach Nansha.
