Guangzhou's Metro Line 11, being regarded as the first loop line across five administrative districts in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), has finished 98% and is scheduled to open within this year.
It has the most interchanging stations so far, with 80% of the total 32 stations connecting to other lines. It is also the first railway line to promote Chinese non-heritage culture. Let's take a look at the highlights of this super interchange line!
80% are interchanging stations
The total length of Guangzhou Metro Line 11 is approximately 44.2 kilometers, is an entirely underground connecting Yue Xiu, Li Wan, Hai Zhu, Tian He, Bai Yun - the five major administrative districts of Guangzhou.
This is the first metro circulation line in Guangzhou ever and even in the Greater Bay Area. It is also accessible into the national railway (Guangzhou railway station, Guangzhou East station), the Pearl River Delta Intercity (Pazhou station) as well, making it a huge transportation network in Guangzhou.
Guangzhou Metro Line 11 has 32 stations in total, in that 26 are of interchanging stations. Among these, Guangzhou Railway Station (廣州火車站) has the most numbers of interchanging stations at all.
It has five stations connecting lines of 2, 5, 14, 22, together with Guangzhou Railway Station. Guangzhou Railway Station links up with the Guang-Shenzhen Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, and Guangzhou-Maoming Railway. The Guangzhou Metro Line 11 will be accessible to the whole country more conveniently after its opening.
There are four large interchanging stations in Pazhou Station, connecting line 8 and line 28, Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway and the Pazhou Line of Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railyway.
Additionally, there are three stations connecting to Foshan; namely Shachong, Yangang, and Hedong East, where they are gateways to the Guangzhou-Foshan Line and Foshan Metro.
Up till now, the civil engineering construction of the whole line is nearing completion and is expected to be operational within this year. Once open, it will significantly alleviate the traffic in the central city and greatly facilitate traffic to the other cities in the Greater Bay Area as well as provinces across China.
90% Stations with Chinese non-heritage decorations
In addition, the decoration of the stations of Guangzhou Metro Line 11 are innovative as well. It incorporates elements of Chinese non-heritage culture, making it probably the first Line themed "Intangible Heritage Cultural" (ICH) in China.
Among the 32 stations, 29 of which will be decorated with different topics of non-heritage. There are tentatively 5 main topics, with each one shown in one key station being chosen in the 5 Administrative Districts of Guangzhou.
These five key stations are Guangzhou East Railway Station, Guangzhou Railway Station, Fangcun Station, Pazhou Station, and the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine University Station.
These stations are designed to showcase representative ICH projects, such as Cantonese Opera, Guangcai porcelain, Guangxiu embroidery, Guangdong lion dancing, and Guangzhou wood carving.
Each non-heritage project will be designed as cultural motifs and will display throughout the station, promoting Lingnan cultural heritages.
Apart from these five key stations, other stations will be categorized into eight types, including clothing, food, housing, transportation, scenery, history, commerce, and education, representing the traditional lifestyle and culture of Guangzhou.
