Diving Queen Fu Mingxia became youngest diving world champion

On January 4, 1991, Chinese diving athlete Fu Mingxia (伏明霞) won the women's 10-metre platform gold medal at the World Swimming Championships held in Australia, becoming the youngest diving world champion in history.

Fu Mingxia is a renowned Chinese diver, born in Wuhan, Hubei Province, and is known as the "Diving Queen" in China.

Fu began to learn diving at the sports school for young athletes at the age of 7. She joined the Hubei Provincial Diving Team at 9, and entered the national diving team in 1990.

When Fu Mingxia won the gold medal in Australia, she was not yet 13 years old, and this feat was recorded in the Guinness World Records.

Later, Fu participated in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, where she won the 10-metre platform championship, becoming the youngest Olympic gold medallist in the history of diving.

Fu Mingxia's diving career is filled with numerous awards, and before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she was the Chinese diver with the most Olympic medals, totalling 4 golds and 1 silver.

Her record was broken when Guo Jingjing (郭晶晶) won 2 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, bringing her total to 4 golds and 2 silvers.

Fu Mingxia retired from the national team after the 1996 Olympics. She later made a comeback in 1998, and then married Antony Leung Kam-chung (梁錦松), former Financial Secretary of Hong Kong.
