Xi Jinping delivered important statement on the Taiwan question

On January 2, 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered a speech, known as the "Five Points", on the Taiwan question.

That day marked the 40th anniversary of the Chinese mainland's Message to Compatriots in Taiwan, and Xi Jinping attended the commemorative event and delivered the speech.

The five-points proposal includes working together to promote China’s rejuvenation and achieve its peaceful reunification;

exploring a "two systems" solution to the Taiwan question and enriching practical efforts toward peaceful reunification;

adhering to the one-China principle and ensuring the prospects for peaceful reunification;

deepening integrated development of the two sides and cementing the foundation for peaceful reunification;

fostering closer bonds of heart and mind between people on both sides and strengthening our joint commitment to peaceful reunification.
