Shenzhen's Futian Railway Station opened

On December 30, 2015, the Futian high speed railway station in south China's Shenzhen, which is the largest underground railway station in Asia, officially began operating. 

The station is one of seven stops on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL).

Tickets started selling from 10 a.m. on the December 29 through various channels, including the China Railway 12306 website, ticketing counters at the station, and ticket agencies. 

Tickets from Futian to Guangzhou South sell for RMB82 (HK$98) and RMB108 (HK$129) for second class and first class cabins, respectively.

With the launch of this station, it took only half an hour to travel from Guangzhou to Hong Kong.

The Futian Station, located at the intersection of Yitian Road and Shennan Avenue in Shenzhen, has a total construction area of the station is 147,000 square metres, equivalent to 21 football fields, only about 40,000 square metres smaller than the world's largest New York Grand Central Station.

The station has a three-story structure.

The first underground floor is a transfer hall with 16 passenger entrances and exits.

The second underground floor is the concourse and waiting hall, with 4 boarding gates and more than 1,200 waiting seats, capable of accommodating 3,000 passengers simultaneously.

The third underground floor is the platform level with 8 tracks and 4 platforms.

According to the official time table, from the first day of operation until January 9, 2016, there were 11 pairs of bullet trains running daily from Futian Station.

Starting from January 10, the number of trains increased to 23 pairs daily.
