Construction of China's Shuo-Huang Railway began

On November 25, 1997, the construction of the "Shuo-Huang Railway" (朔黃鐵路), a freight railway connecting Shanxi and Hebei Province, began.

The construction of the Shuo-Huang Railway was initially proposed in the report of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and it is an important part of the "Western Coal Transportation to the East" new corridor.

The total investment in the Shuo-Huang Railway is 17.4 billion CNY, with a total length of 585 kilometres. It is a first-class national electrified railway trunk line and the second double-track electrified heavy-haul railway in China.

The Shuo-Huang Railway is connected to the already completed Baoshen Railway and Shenshuo Railway, forming the Shenhua Railway with a total length of 1,029 kilometres.

It links up the large energy bases in northern Shaanxi and southern Inner Mongolia with the Bohai Sea's coastal outlets to become the second large corridor for "Western Coal Transportation to the East" in China.

It is worth mentioning that the Shuo-Huang Railway not only has excellent engineering quality, but the first phase of the project was completed one year and two months ahead of schedule.

The railway began trial operation under temporary management just 10 days after the construction was completed on May 18, 2000, creating a miracle in railway construction history with "completion, operation, and loan repayment in the same year".
