Jacaranda spots in Kunming: Indulge in the dreamy purple world

Editor︰Ryu

Kunming in Yunnan Province, known as the "Spring City" and the "Flower City" for its year-round mild weather and beautiful scenery, is a great place to enjoy spring and flowers.

Every April, the blue jacaranda blooms in Kunming. Even if you have not heard of the name "jacaranda", you must have seen stunning photos of  dreamy sea of blue and purple flowers that go viral online every spring.

So where is the best place to see the blue jacaranda in Kunming? Let's embark on a flower journey with this article!

Jacaranda spot 1: Jiaochang Middle Road - A boulevard in a sea of flowers

Speaking of the most "popular" and highly discussed jacaranda viewing point in Kunming, the Jiaochang Middle Road located in Wuhua District is a must-see spot.

Jiaochang Middle Road, which is 1,500 metres long, has over 200 jacaranda trees along both sides. Around mid-April every year, this jacaranda boulevard blooms full of blue and purple flowers, extending for a kilometre, instantly transforming the street into a romantic flower street.

It is the area with the densest distribution of Jacaranda in Kunming and has become a popular spot for tourists.

It's worth noting that Jiaochang Middle Road is a busy thoroughfare, so be sure to pay attention to the traffic and stay safe when seeking out the flowers for a photo.

Besides Jiaochang Middle Road, which turns into a purple waterfall, the area around the Lianhua Primary School and Lianhua Comprehensive Market in Wuhua District, is also one of the best spots for viewing the blue Jacaranda, where the flowers bloom even more brightly.

While visiting, you can also buy creative blue jacaranda-shaped popsicles nearby to enjoy the flowers and treats at the same time.

Jacaranda Spot 2: Panlong River - Viewing the flowers on a boat trip

Aside from the most popular Jiaochang Middle Road, the Panlong River in Panlong District is also a great place to view jacaranda.

Unlike the artsy flower boulevard of Jiaochang Middle Road, the view here is of flowers and river scenery, adding a poetic touch.

On sunny days, you can take a stroll along the Panlong River, or take a boat ride, viewing the jacaranda on both banks in full bloom. With the flowers swaying in the breeze and reflecting on the clear water, the play of shadows is enchanting.

Occasionally, a few waterfowls frolic in the water, making you feel as if you have stepped into a beautiful oil painting world, stunningly beautiful.

Besides the Panlong River, there are also quite a lot of blooming jacaranda on both sides of the Xiaoba Road in Panlong District. If you don't want to mingle with the crowd on Jiaochang Middle Road, you might consider going to the less crowded Panlong District.

Jacaranda Spot 3: Spring City Road - Flowers and portraits complementing each other

If you enjoy portrait photography, the next place would be perfect for you, which is the Spring City Road located in Guandu District.

As one of the main roads in Kunming city, the Spring City Road is an important witness to the city's development.

Nowadays, this boulevard is lined with lush trees, beautiful flowers, and colourful paintings, making it a bustling avenue full of Yunnan characteristics.

On Spring City Road, flourishing jacaranda trees line the route. The large areas of jacarandas spread out like a carpet, dreamy and magnificent.

Paired with the blue jacarandas, the Yunnan relief sculptures and colourful paintings on both sides of the boulevard become eye-catching more than ever.

Since the jacaranda trees here are not very tall, everyone can easily touch the crown of the jacaranda and take close-up photos. Also, there are relatively fewer people on Spring City Road, making it one of the best spots for portrait photography.

In fact, aside from the places introduced above, there are many other spots in Kunming where you can see the dreamy jacaranda, such as Lianmeng Road, Beijing Road, Hongmian Road, around Cui Lake and so on.

There is always a spot that can fulfil everyone's beautiful fantasies of the "Spring City". Why not take this spring and summer to visit Kunming and feel the charm of the blooming jacaranda?
