China's submersible Fendouzhe returned after ocean expedition

On November 28, 2020, China's full-ocean-depth manned submersible "Fendouzhe" (Striver, 奮鬥者號) returned to port at Nanshan Port in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, after completing a 10,000-metre sea trial.

Fendouzhe is a core development task of the national key research and development plan "Key Technologies and Equipment for Deep Sea" under China's 13th Five-Year Plan.

Starting from October 10, 2020, Fendouzhe went to the Mariana Trench to carry out a 10,000-metre sea trial.

It successfully completed 13 dives, 8 of which exceeded a depth of 10,000 metres, and set a new national manned deep diving record of 10,909 metres.

The successful sea trial verified the various functions and performances of the submersible as well as China's breakthroughs in deep-sea equipment and technologies.

It also took 11 people to the bottom of the 10,000-metre sea to conduct experiments and scientific research, including the first female scientist, deep sea institute researcher He Lisheng (賀麗生).

Since then, China has become the country with the largest number of people who have made to the 10,000-metre sea.
