Deng Xiaoping's visit to Japan

On October 22, 1978, Deng Xiaoping (鄧小平), then Vice Premier of the State Council, visited Japan.

In August 1978, the governments of China and Japan concluded the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship (中日和平友好條約).

Following this, Deng Xiaoping visited Japan from October 22 to 29, becoming the first Chinese national leader to officially visit Japan after World War II.

Apart from attending the exchange ceremony of ratifications of the Treaty, Deng's trip was also a journey to learn the experience to promote the modernisation of China.

During his visit, Deng Xiaoping visited several Japanese companies, including Nippon Steel Corporation, Nissan Motor, and Panasonic. He also took the bullet train from Tokyo to Kansai.
