On May 20, 2013, the first phase of Line 1 and Line 2 of the Kunming Metro in Yunnan officially began passenger trial operations, marking the opening of the first plateau subway in China.
The first-phase southern section of Lines 1 and 2 of the Kunming Metro is 22.144 kilometers long, with 12 stations set up. Each intermediate stop lasts for 40 seconds, with terminal stops lasting 60 seconds. The train's maximum operating speed is 80 kilometers per hour, with a single trip running time of approximately 34 minutes.
The first-phase construction of Lines 1 and 2 of the Kunming Metro began in April 2010. After more than three years of construction, the Kunming Metro company started the final stage of empty-load trial runs on April 9, 2013.
Before the official opening, Lines 1 and 2 of the Kunming Metro underwent a one-month empty-load trial operation verification.
During this period, all system operations were normal, and the realization rate and punctuality rate of the train operations exceeded the verification standards of 96% and 90%, respectively, reaching 100% and 99.7%.
The Kunming Metro company said that the trial operation of Lines 1 and 2 of the Kunming Metro passed the strict evaluation and received evaluations from the China Institute of Safety Production and the Shanghai Transportation Industry Association, which issued opinions stating that the first phase of the Kunming Metro project basically met the conditions for starting trial operations.
