"A Holistic Approach to National Security" was proposed

On April 15, 2014, "A Holistic Approach to National Security" (總體國家安全觀) of China was proposed for the first time.

On that day, President Xi Jinping presided over the first meeting of the Central National Security Commission.

He pointed out that it is necessary to adhere to the Holistic Approach to National Security, with the security of the people as the goal, political security as the foundation, economic security as the basis, military, cultural, and social security as the guarantee, and the promotion of international security as the support, thereby forging a path of national security with Chinese characteristics.

The Holistic Approach to National Security encompasses 20 major fields, including Political Security, Military Security, Homeland Security, Economic Security, Financial Security, Cultural Security, Societal Security, Science and Technology Security, Cybersecurity, Food Security, Ecological Security, Resource Security, Nuclear Security, Overseas Interests Security, Outer Space Security, Deep Sea Security, Polar Security, Biosecurity, Artificial Intelligence Security, Data Security.

The Holistic Approach to National Security emphasises a macroscopic and comprehensive perspective to fully understand, implement, and advance the overall security of the nation.

On July 1, 2015, the 15th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress passed the "State Security Law of the People's Republic of China", designating April 15th each year as "National Security Education Day".

The aim is to raise national security awareness among the public, create a strong atmosphere for maintaining national security, and enhance the ability to prevent and withstand security risks.
