Aizhai Bridge in China's Hunan was opened to traffic

On March 31, 2012, the Aizhai Bridge (矮寨大橋) in China's Hunan Province was completed and opened to traffic.

The Aizhai Bridge is located in Aizhai Town of Jishou City, Xiangxi Prefecture, spanning the Dehang Grand Canyon (德夯大峽谷). It is the largest canyon-span steel truss suspension bridge in the world at that time.

The Aizhai Bridge has set four world records: using the world’s first track cable sliding method for main truss beam installation; adopting the completely separated tower and beam structure for the first time; using large-scale rock-anchored suspension cables on a suspension bridge for the first time; and adopting carbon fibre prestressed cables for anchoring the rock anchor base for the first time.

The Aizhai Bridge shortens the crossing of the Dehang Grand Canyon from as fast as half an hour to just one minute, significantly integrating Xiangxi Prefecture into the "four-hour economic circle" of cities like Changsha, Chongqing, Guilin, and Guiyang.
