China and Japan jointly breed world's first "test-tube goat"

On March 9, 1984, Chinese veterinary doctor Bou Shorgan (旭日干) teamed up with Japanese scientists to successfully breed the world's first "test-tube goat".

Bou Shorgan is of Mongolian ethnicity and a descendant of Genghis Khan (成吉思汗). After being admitted to Inner Mongolia University in 1965, Bou Shorgan studied biology and went to Japan in April 1982 to pursue further studies, specialising in livestock reproductive biology.

Bou Shorgan pursued advanced studies in Tsukuba, a renowned "Science City" in Japan, under the mentorship of scientist Ryo Takeuchi, and worked in the laboratory of in vitro fertilisation expert Akira Hanada, conducting research on "test-tube sheep technology".

In the 1980s, experiments on in vitro fertilisation of sheep and goats had seen no breakthroughs even after more than a decade. L

ater, Bou Shorgan proposed a new method of "drug-induced capacitation of sperm," and successfully collaborated with Japanese scientists to breed the world's first "test-tube goat," gaining instant fame.

By 1989, Bou Shorgan, known as the "father of the test-tube goat," had successfully bred China's first "test-tube sheep" and "test-tube cow." He also proposed the industrialisation technology process for test-tube cows and sheep, achieving several important research outcomes.
