China won its first women's gymnastics team gold at Olympics

On August 13, 2008, Team China won the first women's gymnastics team Olympic gold medal in China's history.

The 29th Summer Olympics were held in Beijing, the capital of China, and August 13 was the day of the women's gymnastics team competition finals.

The first event was vault, where Team China trailed Team U.S. by 0.525 points.

The second event was uneven bars, the U.S. team took a high score of 47.975; but it was encouraging that the subsequent Team China's three players performed excellently, and the total score exceeded the U.S. team by 1.125 points.

The third event was balance beam. Athletes of China and the U.S. both made mistakes, and the difference of both sides' total score narrowed down to only 1 point.

The final event was floor exercise, where the U.S. team made another serious mistake. The Chinese team seized the opportunity and ended up with a total score of 188.900 points, overpowering the U.S. team's 186.525 points, to win China's first women's gymnastics team Olympic gold medal.

Prior to this, China's best result in the Olympics was only a bronze medal.
