Chinese player won first Grand Slam tennis championship

On January 27, 2006, China won its first ever Grand Slam tennis championship.

The Chinese women's doubles team, consisting of Zheng Jie (鄭潔) and Yan Zi (晏紫), fought their way to the finals in the 2006 Australian Open.

In that day's final, after a fierce battle, Zheng Jie and Yan Zi came back from being a set down to win two consecutive sets, ultimately triumphing with a score of 2:6, 7:6, 6:3.

They successfully defeated the top seeds from the USA and Australia, winning China's first Grand Slam title in tennis and the first women's doubles championship.

After the match, the then Chinese ambassador to Australia, Fu Ying (傅瑩), immediately called to offer her congratulations. She noted that the outstanding performance of the Chinese athletes demonstrated to Australia and the world the tenacious and striving spirit of the Chinese people.
