China's Liaoning aircraft carrier delivered to navy

On September 25, 2012, China's first aircraft carrier was officially delivered to the People's Liberation Army Navy, and was named "Liaoning" (遼寧艦).

As early as the 1970s, General Liu Huaqing (劉華清), who is hailed as the "Father of China's Aircraft Carriers", had submitted the first feasibility report on the construction of an aircraft carrier to the People's Liberation Army Navy.

In 1998, docked on the coast of the Black Sea, the Soviet Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier "Varyag", which had been 68% completed for construction, caught China's attention.

China purchased the Varyag in 1999, and after a long 8 years of modifications and continued construction, the transformation was finally completed.

Under the name "Liaoning", it officially entered service with the People's Liberation Army Navy, primarily for scientific research, experiments and training purposes.
