China's first batch of national geoparks listed

On March 16, 2001, China's first batch of national geoparks was officially listed.

There are a total of 11 national geoparks in the first batch, namely the Yunnan Stone Forest National Geopark, Hunan Zhangjiajie National Geopark, Henan Songshan National Geopark, Jiangxi Lushan National Geopark, Yunnan Chengjiang Animal Fossil Group National Geopark, Heilongjiang Wudalianchi National Geopark, Sichuan Zigong Dinosaur National Geopark, Fujian Zhangzhou Coastal Volcano National Geopark, Shaanxi Cuihua Mountain Landslide National Geopark, Sichuan Longmen Mountain National Geopark, and Jiangxi Longhushan National Geopark.

The National Geoparks were approved after strict evaluation by the National Geological Heritage (Geopark) Evaluation Committee, which is composed of experts and scholars from the Ministry of Land and Resources and other departments.
