Opening of the first CIIE

On November 5, 2018, the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened in Shanghai.

CIIE is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal Government.

According to the official introduction, holding the CIIE is a major initiative of the Chinese government to firmly support trade liberalisation and economic globalisation, and to proactively open up the market to the world.

It is conducive to fostering closer economic and trade exchanges and co-operation among countries around the world, promoting global trade and world economic growth, and advancing the development of an open world economy.

The first CIIE welcomed 172 countries, regions, and international organisations, with over 3,600 enterprises participating, and over 400,000 domestic and foreign buyers attending for negotiations and procurement.

On a one-year basis, the cumulative intended transactions amounted to USD 57.83 billion.
