Restoration of the lawful rights of the PRC in UN

On October 25, 1971, Resolution 2758 was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, restoring the People's Republic of China to its lawful right in the United Nations.

On that day, the 26th United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly approved Albania, Algeria, and 23 other countries' proposal, demanding the restoration of all lawful rights of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the UN and expelling "Chiang Kai-shek's representatives", with 76 votes in favour, 35 against and 17 abstentions.

The resolution stated that ''Considering that the restoration of the lawful rights of the People's Republic of China is essential both for the protection of the Charter of the United Nations and for the cause that the United Nations must serve under the Charter; recognising that the representatives of the Government of the People's Republic of China are the only lawful representatives of China to the United Nations and that the People's Republic of China is one of the five permanent members of the Security Council.''

Finally, the resolution decides to restore all its rights to the People's Republic of China and to recognise the representatives of its Government as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations, and to expel forthwith the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石) from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United Nations and in all the organisations related to it.
