HKPM's new special exhibition in Sep "The Origins of Chinese Civilisation"

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the Hong Kong Palace Museum will launch a new special exhibition, "The Origins of Chinese Civilisation", starting from 25 Sep.

The exhibition focuses on the fruitful achievements of archaeology in the "Origins of Chinese Civilisation Project". It is the second "Chinese Civilization" series exhibition following the special exhibition of Sanxingdui.

Presenting the fruitful results of archaeology in three major sections

The Hong Kong Palace Museum will launch the "The Origins of Chinese Civilisation" special exhibition from September 25. The exhibition is divided into three sections, which respectively display the historical context of the origin, formation, and development of Chinese civilization.

The exhibition will display nearly 110 precious relics unearthed from the national major archaeological project - "Origins of Chinese Civilisation Project".

It features around 110 rare archaeological finds and significant treasures on loan from 14 major cultural institutions in Hong Kong and the Mainland.

These spectacular loans represent nine archaeological cultures and nine major archaeological sites across the country. Nearly, all the loans are displayed in Hong Kong for the first time.

The 110 precious unearthed cultural relics span from the middle and late Neolithic to the Xia Dynasty (8,200-3,500 BP), covering pottery, jade, stone carvings, bone tools, bronzes, etc.

Highlights include a jade dragon from the Hongshan culture (6,500–5,000 BP) and a bronze jia-vessel from the Erlitou culture (3,800–3,500 BP).

At the same time, the "The Origins of Chinese Civilisation" exhibition will use multimedia technology to vividly recreate the Shimao site in Shaanxi province, providing an immersive experience for visitors.

Tickets will be on sale starting from August 23

The Hong Kong Palace Museum's "The Origins of Chinese Civilisation" special exhibition will be open to the public in Gallery 8. The exhibition will run from September 25, 2024, to February 7, 2025.

The price for an adult ticket is HKD 100, and HKD 50 for concessions. The above ticket prices include all other regular exhibitions at the museum (Gallery 1 to 7).

Related tickets will be on sale from August 23. You can purchase or reserve them at the online ticket sales platform of the West Kowloon Cultural District and partner platforms.
