GBA|Travel from Shenzhen to Jiangmen within an hour in 2028

Editor︰Ivy Cin

Another mega project, "Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway", is currently under construction in the Greater Bay Area, which is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2028.

By then, it will only take 1 hour to travel from Shenzhen to Jiangmen, and the travel time from Hong Kong to the western part of Guangdong Province will be halved.

The construction of Shenzhen Airport East Station, one of the main stations along this railway line, is also about to begin, marking a new development in this mega project.

Travel time from HK to western Guangdong will be halved

The Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway (including the Pearl River Estuary tunnel to be built in the first phase) has a total length of about 116 kilometres, with bridges covering 69 kilometres, and tunnels around 45 kilometres (including underground station length).

There are a total of 7 stations along the line: Xili, Shenzhen Airport East, Binhai Bay, Nansha, Zhongshan North, Henglan, and Jiangmen. Xili and Shenzhen Airport East are underground stations, while Binhai Bay, Nansha, Zhongshan North, and Henglan are elevated stations, and Jiangmen Station is at-ground station.

The project is divided into 5 sections, and the construction period is from June 2024 to October 2027. Once it open to traffic, the coastal route will be further unblocked, making it possible to get from Shenzhen to Jiangmen in only an hour, and from Shenzhen to the Nansha Free Trade Zone in Guangzhou in half an hour by high-speed rail.

The travel time from Hong Kong to the western part of Guangdong will also be halved.

Shenzhen Airport East Station is about to start construction

The railway has recently made significant progress, with the main station along the route, Shenzhen Airport East station, about to start construction.

The station, located near Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, is one of the controlling projects of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway. It covers a total construction area of 487,500 square metres, with an underground station length of 1,374 metres and a width between 33.83 to 161.2 metres.

The station adopts a highly efficient transport facility layout to accommodate the travel demand of a large number of passengers.

With a highly efficient entry and exit system, it ensures that passengers can enter and leave the station quickly and smoothly. One can board a flight upstairs, or switch to a high-speed train and subway downstairs. All transfers can be completed within 5 minutes.

The Shenzhen Airport East Station is planned as an underground station, which confines the noise and vibration generated by train operations within underground spaces, protecting the living environment of nearby residents.
