On June 16, 2016, Shanghai Disneyland officially opened and held a grand opening ceremony in front of the main venue, the "Enchanted Storybook Castle".
The construction began on April 8, 2011, and it is located in the Pudong New District of Shanghai. The theme park covers an area of about 3.9 square kilometres when it first opened.
It is the 6th Disney resort globally and the first in Mainland China, jointly invested by the Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Shendi Group (上海申迪集團).
On April 26, 2018, "Disney•Pixar Toy Story Land", the seventh theme park area of Shanghai Disneyland, was officially opened. It was the first major expansion project since the park's opening.
Shanghai Disneyland features the tallest and largest castle among all Disney parks worldwide and is the first to have a pirate-themed area.
Not long after its opening, Shanghai Disneyland made two glorious achievements. It became the first Disney park to surpass 10 million visitors less than a year into operation, and the first to achieve financial break-even in its first full financial year since opening.
